Meter is the most important, as well as the most neglected, measure of a poem’s meaning and beauty. In this seminar, we will analyze, identify, and interpret the meter of five important poems in an effort to deepen our appreciation of English poetry and our ability to communicate this passion to others. Our study will teach us to regard such writers as Shakespeare, Keats, Tennyson, and Frost in a new light, not according to their literary importance only, but also for their mastery of poetic expression.
